Travel Information

Drive (Please think about carpooling!)

Minimal traffic makes car travel relatively low stress – and fuel efficient! There's easy access to Interstate 95 (which runs north-south) and Interstate 64 (which runs east-west), providing swift routes to destinations all across the eastern half of the United States.

To get around the area, rely on Interstate 295 – a beltway that loops around downtown Richmond, connecting areas east and west of the city. State Route 288 runs from I-95 in Chesterfield County to Route 250 / Broad Street in Goochland, while Interstate 895 – also called Pocahontas Parkway – connects Richmond International Airport to points south of the city.

Tolls ranging from 20 cents to $2.50 are found on the Downtown Expressway, Powhite Parkway, and Pocahontas Parkway. For more information, click here. The City of Richmond is built on a grid – which makes navigation quite simple – although many downtown streets are one-way, with the notable exception of Broad Street.
